Penang, an island located off the Western coast of Peninsular Malaysia has a heritage like no other. The island is home to UNESCO World Heritage sites, famed for its historical buildings and street art.

Penang also has a vibrant food scene and is known as Malaysia’s food capital. And how can we forget the beautiful beaches and lush hills that are scattered throughout the island.

Penang is a great place to be and you can explore its wonders with our 4-day tour package to Penang & Bukit Mertajam. Here’s a rundown of our itinerary:

Our Penang tour package starts in Singapore where we’ll gather as a group before proceeding to customs. We’ll have breakfast at our own expense and then make our way to KL.

Upon arrival, we’ll be stopping over for lunch before checking into Tadom Hill – an exclusive bamboo inspired resort.

Once checked in, we’ll be free to roam around the resort and indulge in its recreational activities. You can also head out and explore the surrounding area.

Day 2 (Kuala Lumpur - Bukit Mertajam)

After a hearty breakfast, we’ll embark on our journey to Bukit Mertajam by train. The journey will take approximately 4 hours, giving you the opportunity to enjoy the view along the way.

The ride will take you through greenery, rice fields, lakes, kampongs and historical buildings so be camera ready! Here are some of the places we’ll visit upon arrival:

  • Tow Boo Kong Temple: This Taoist temple was built in the 1970s and is one of the most popular Nine Emperor Gods Temple in Malaysia. The temple is massive as it stands across 2 plots of land with a total area of 40,000 square feet.

The temple boasts impressive sculptures and figures of dragons, mythical lions and heavenly warriors. It also has complex passageways that feature prayer halls, inner courtyards and sanctums.

  • Kampong Agong: Located in mainland Penang, Kampong Agong is a village situated within a city. It was built as a theme park to allow locals and tourists to experience the kampong life.

The park features a homestay, paddy fields, a cafe and a miniature animal farm. It’s a great place to take pictures while spending time with your family and friends. Not to mention a breath of fresh air for everyone on the tour!

We’ll also get the chance to stop by the city center before calling it a day. This will give you the chance to explore the local market and sample some authentic snacks before capping off with dinner.

Day 3

We’ll start the day with some breakfast before proceeding to the first stop on our list:

  • Balik Pulau: Balik Pulau is a town that makes up almost one–third of the island! There’s a lot of things to do in Balik Pulau like indulging in food, visiting historical sites and observing art. Our main activity will be the Balik Pulau Nature tour. This will give us the opportunity to explore the natural beauty of the area.

  • Mural Art Street: Art lovers will get the chance to witness the stunning wall art around George Town. Penang is well known for its street art and you can capture stunning photos against the backdrop of these murals. Each tells a captivating story about Penang’s rich culture and history.

  • Rainbow Skywalk: The Rainbow Skywalk is an observatory deck that offers stunning views of George Town. It’s the best way to get a birds eye view of the city and its surroundings. The deck is located atop the Komtar Tower, the tallest building in Penang. The skywalk features a transparent glass walkway that makes it feel like you’re walking on air. Just avoid jumping and risk ending our Penang tour package much earlier than expected!

  • Gurney Drive: We’ll end the day with dinner at Gurney Drive, a popular seafront promenade. The seafront offers some of the best street food in town and you’ve probably seen pictures of its atmosphere throughout social media. Here, you can feast on an array of Penang delicacies like char kuey teow, laksa and satay.

Day 4 (Return to Singapore)

Our Penang tour package has sadly come to an end but fret not – our last day will feature some great highlights before departing for Singapore. We’ll start the day with breakfast at the hotel and then proceed to the city tour.

This will give you the opportunity to explore the city one last time. After that, we’ll have time for more activities like:

  • Penang Hill: Penang Hill offers a panoramic view of the island and mainland. There are a total of 6 peaks to lookout from, each offering a unique perspective of Penang’s landscape. You can reach the summit with a funicular train ride or hike up the hill. Once at the top, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the cityscape, coastline, and surrounding hills.

  • Kek Lok Si Temple: Kek Lok Si is one of the largest temples in Malaysia. It has some of the most intricate architecture and statues you’ll ever see. This includes the towering Pagoda of Ten Thousand Buddhas and the majestic bronze statue of Kuan Yin. The temple was built in 1891 and is a must visit for history buffs!

Our last day will also feature a visit to the local product shop to purchase some souvenirs. You’ll also get the chance to taste the infamous Penang laksa which you can soothe down with a refreshing chendol.

Now our Penang & Bukit Mertajam tour has truly come to an end as we transfer to Penang airport for one final flight.
